The SMA set foot in Southern part of India by opening the first SMA House in Mangadu, Chennai, and it is the first formation house in India. In the campus, the administration started its organisation. Most Rev. Casmir S.J. Archbishop of Madras-Mylapore, on 6th January 1991, blessed and opened SMA House for training missionaries to Africa to continue the work of Mgr Melchior de Marion Bresillac, the founder of the Society of African Missions.
This house prides in hosing most of our SMA members during their formation years or a visit or a short stay. Many of our former SMA associate members helped the formation program, like Frs. Rajaregam, Santiago Sj, TV Joseph Sj, KS Arockiasamy, and AV Arockiasamy. At present, SMA House has 3 students of theology who attend classes at Sacred Heart Seminary, Poonamallee. Frs Maria Joseph and Valentine accompany the students in their missionary formation.
It has beautiful garden in the front with a Marian statue and surrounded with many trees in the compound really, naturally beautifies the house. Behind the house, at the right, there is chapel, built in African-hut style; everyday, the community gathers to pray for the Missionaries around the world and the valuable support of many generous benefactors.
Our Lady of Africa, pray for us!
